Genomic Epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in Western Burkina Faso, West Africa

The cause for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

This study took place in Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa. Over the course of May 5th, 2020 to January 31st, 2022, the genomic epidemiology study of SARS-CoV-2 from this region was obtained by analyzing 372 viral genome isolates.

The aim of this study was to highlight the importance of implementing preventative policies to prevent the spread of the virus causing new epidemic waves.

PreciGenome's FastPlex Triplex SARS-CoV-2 Detection Kit (RT-Digital PCR) was used in the sampling and SARS-CoV-2 screening.
